Exploring Pier Scour at the 7th IAHR Europe Conference

The 7th IAHR Europe Conference in Athens provided a fantastic platform for knowledge exchange where RISED Laboratory share its latest research on pier scour.

Our study applied Principal Component Analysis (PCA) on a comprehensive field database to identify the most critical parameters influencing the scour process. This approach ensures that any new parameters introduced are rigorously evaluated for their contribution to the total variance in scour depth, avoiding inaccuracies that could arise from unknown dependencies.

By refining parameter selection, this research advances the understanding of scour dynamics and supports more accurate predictions—an essential step toward safeguarding hydraulic infrastructure.
