8th IAHR Europe Congress

From June 4–7, 2024, our research group had the privilege of participating in the 8th IAHR Europe Congress: Water Across Boundaries, held in Lisbon, Portugal. This prestigious international event brought together international experts to discuss the latest advancements in hydro-environmental research.

RISED Laboratory research group contributed to the congress with three papers focusing on scour protection around bridge piers using riprap, addressing critical challenges associated with local scour:

• Influence of different numerical setups on scour pattern at the initial scour stage next to a bridge pier protected with riprap
• Quadrant analysis of flow structures downstream of a bridge pier protected with riprap
• Analysis of flow velocity profile for immobile bed conditions next to a bridge pier protected with riprap

Our research emphasizes the importance of understanding scour dynamics and developing reliable protection methods to enhance the resilience of infrastructure interacting with flow. Events like these are invaluable for exchanging knowledge and fostering collaboration in the field of hydraulic engineering.
